Nineties Candy Studio

The MSC students recently visited the Nineties Candy Studio which is a newly opened candy store located in the bustling bugis street. Nineties is a candy store which was opened by four of our very own NYP retail students.

On the exterior, one may think that it looks just like any other candy store. However, what differentiates Nineties from the rest is their movement to help the deaf/hear-impaired, most of their products have been revamped and specially prepared by the deaf/hearing-impaired. They even hire the deaf/hearing-impaired to be part of their retail team, means they will be in the front-line directly serving customers.

To share their cause with their customers and the public, little posters such as the one on the left and many others are scattered all over the store to promote their cause.

"Since many of the jobs we have today is earning revenue from the public, I feel that there's an evident need to give back to those less-fortunate ones in society too. Thus, this is our way of giving back to society." Quoted by Robin, one of the 4 student entrepreneurs.

Another element that makes Nineties distinctive is the interior design of the store, all the art drawn on the walls were done by the students themselves. Which makes it very unique and clutter-free due to less fixtures, this helps them to maximize their product display space in their 100 square-foot store.

They also have many kinds of promotions such as "Buy 10 and get One Free" and hampers that have a variety of products in it. Another service they provide is customization of the stickers on their products,
thus they allow their customers to personalize the color, design and words on the candy. They have quirky 9GAG candies and even inspirational quotes.

Overall, the field trip was very beneficial and informational. And i'm sure that all the students that went for the trip took at least a tip or two on how businesses are being carried out. Especially for the budding entrepreneur, this would have been a very good eye opener.

Red Dot Museum

Red Dot Museum showcases ideas and products with a contemporary design. Admission is free on the first weekend of the month, where there will also be Artist’ Market. The market attracts local and foreign visitors, where many creative products are sold.

MSC students went to the museum last Friday, and took in many ideas and concepts from the designers that ‘WOW-ed’ everyone. Many students commented on the creative ways to display their product, where it looked exceptionally stunning yet cost effective. Handmade products were conscientiously made with every single intricate detail. Some interesting food products was the ice-cream, any size any amount. The students crowded the stall as they could pay at any amount for the exciting flavors offered. Another stall sold sugar coated lollipop which had a mini cupcake hidden inside.
Some of the learning points:
·         Visual Display
·         Contacting suppliers
·         Grouping of products together
·         Creative ways to promote products
